News of cyberattacks targeting the healthcare industry continue to litter headlines. Which is why it is critical that any stakeholder who processes patient information take the necessary steps to mitigate risk of breach or attack. More than 300 data breaches have been reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights since the start of this year. Those breaches have affected over 40M individuals. These eye-popping numbers are a clear indication that securing patient data is not just a priority for all healthcare stakeholders who handle sensitive patient information – it's an absolute necessity. That’s why Claim.MD continues to ensure our services meet the most stringent privacy and security standards set forth by the healthcare sector’s governing bodies through attaining critical industry-recognized certifications and accreditations.
Our two-plus year accreditation and certification journey kicked-off in February of 2021 as we began the Healthcare Network Accreditation Program (HNAP) for Electronic Health Networks (EHN) from the DirectTrust governed EHNAC. We successfully completed the program and achieved full HNAP EHN accreditation from DirectTrust in August 2021, signaling our dedication to ensuring the thousands of providers, payers and software vendors who turn to Claim.MD to streamline their revenue cycle needs can do so confidently as our products and services continue to exceed industry-established standards.
In April of 2022, we announced that Clam.MD had achieved the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE®) Eligibility, Claim Status, and Payment & Remittance Certification Seals. That may sound like a mouthful, but achieving CAQH CORE certification is an important one with billions of electronic transactions conducted by the healthcare industry each year. This certification signifies customers can trust us to exchange their administrative data safely and securely across the healthcare system as we remain committed to furthering interoperability in the healthcare space.
Completing the rigorous SOC 2 Type 2 evaluation in July of last year was the icing on our 2022 accreditation and certification achievement cake. Conducted by independent, third-party auditors, this examination demonstrated to our customers and stakeholders that Claim.MD has implemented stringent privacy and security procedures as established by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). SOC 2 reports focus on a business’s non-financial reporting controls as they relate to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy of a system. Attaining SOC 2 Type 2 certification provides independent assurance to our customers and the patients they serve that we are taking all steps to provide the highest level of confidentiality and control.
With the calendar turning to 2023, we set our sights on several more certifications which included completing DirectTrust HNAP EHN reaccreditation in May. In June, we announced that Claim.MD earned TX-RAMP Level 2 certification, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to security and compliance. TX-RAMP (Texas Risk and Authorization Management Program) is a rigorous certification process administered by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR). It standardizes security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring of cloud computing services for its technology partners that handle state agencies' data. Obtaining this certification reflects our ongoing commitment to providing secure and compliant claims management solutions to our customers.
As the summer continued heating up, so did our certification accolades as we proudly announced in July that we had achieved the prestigious HITRUST Risk-based, 2-year (r2) Certification – demonstrating that our Clearinghouse Service has met demanding regulatory compliance and industry-defined requirements and is appropriately managing risk. This achievement places Claim.MD in an elite group of organizations worldwide that have earned this certification. By including federal and state regulations, standards, and frameworks, HITRUST ensures that we are appropriately managing risk and addressing security challenges through a comprehensive and flexible framework of security controls.
Through our comprehensive approach to data security, we feel we’re helping set an example for the entire healthcare industry. By earning multiple certifications and accreditations, we have showcased our dedication to staying ahead of evolving cyber threats. Perhaps most importantly, these accomplishments are clear proof of our unwavering commitment to providing healthcare providers, payers and software vendors with a secure and efficient platform for managing electronic medical transactions.
